You all know Inari Shrine, with its many torii gates and fox monuments, one of the top tourist attractions in Japan.
Do you know the difference between a shrine and a temple? Temples are usually open at night, depending on the season, and you cannot usually go to see them at night. You also need to pay a fee to see the temple in some places.
Shrines, on the other hand, have no admission fee and no closing time. You can simply go at the time you want to go. You can go early in the morning to take pictures, or late at night to explore with a flashlight in hand.
When I was a high school student, I once went to Fushimi Inari to do some independent training at night and was surprised to see a tourist with a spotlight on his head bumping into me out of the darkness.
Next is Tofuku-ji Temple, a temple famous for its autumn foliage, which is also very beautiful in the fall and green in the summer. 2023 is still undecided for the fall season, but it is likely to hold nighttime viewing. (Reservations are required).
The entrance fee and viewing hours are as follows.

This time, I would like to introduce a slightly minor shrine. Do you like horse racing? It is a horse race where horses run. Fujimori Shrine is a shrine dedicated to victory and horses. Many Japanese people enjoy horse racing. When the game of a lifetime is at stake, horse racing fans come here to pray. You will experience what makes this shrine different from others, as there are many pictures of horses decorated inside the shrine.
Fujimori Shrine is also planted with many hydrangeas, which are very beautiful during the months of June and July.
Very interesting website for Fujimori Shrine with horses running.
All of the temples and shrines introduced here can be reached only by the JR Nara Line.
Let’s go discover a new Kyoto!
